One Truth: Gabe was my first and only

January 24, 2013

My close friends and family already know this One Truth.
As time goes by, I realize how rare this one truth is. I have shared this on other blogs, but have not told the tale here yet. So, for today, we will start with just this…
My husband Gabe was my first and only love. My first everything. Even my first heartbreak! But that’s a story for another day…

That awkward moment…How do we pose? I don’t know you go first…

I had some great guy friends throughout high school and college, but you could say that I wasn’t the average boy crazy gal. I knew enjoying life and becoming my own person was the first step to being in any sort of relationship, and I knew my heart was made to give itself entirely to someone. I didn’t want to have it beat up in the process. So onward I went…

When I met Gabe for the first time in college, he stirred up my whole being. It was not the cliche infatuation or crush…I had many of those. But him…something in my recognized him. It scared the crap out of me so I just ignored that something trying to tell me something, and we just became good friends.

We’ll save the rest of the story for another time because really, you already know the rest of the story. I AM carrying his child and all…:)

Things can be crazy in our life but even when its a tornado Gabe is still my calm. I am convinced without a doubt that God created us for each other. I think you all know how crazy I am about him. Besides, I get to be a total goofball around him, and he makes me laugh like no one else. So just in case you were wondering…it IS possible to fall more in love with your spouse each year…

What about you? Have any One Truth’s to share? You know I love them…:)

  • So sweet! love your story 🙂

  • i love this so much! thanks for sharing this. such a beautiful story, anna. 🙂

  • Your love story is so cute!

  • You two are precious. I love your sweet honesty about your One Truth and knowing that God created you two for each other. It definitely encourages us single girls to focus on life and waiting on the one that God has made for us. 🙂

  • You two are perfect and absolutely adorable!

  • Anna, I love reading this. My husband (Andrew) was my one and only love and I his. I had gone out on dates before, but he was the only person (and me for him) person I ever truly “dated”. We both knew God had guarded our hearts to save them for each other. I am so thankful for that. We’ve been married for 10 years (and together for 14!!) and I am so glad we sought God in everything regarding our relationship.

  • such a sweet, simple love story. loved this post!

  • Love this! I totally agree…my husband is my best friend and it just gets better every year. We have our ups and downs and fights like every other couple, but I truly believe he was created just for me. 🙂

  • gorgeous photo and love the story behind you two

  • The same goes for Evan and I!! Only our love story started in High school! 🙂

  • This is very sweet! I’ll admit it made my heart hurt a little to read it. This is how I think it should be for everyone – if only! I am still single and have been through the dreaded things…continuous dating and then the ultimate: the man you thought was the one ending up not being the one. This all came after a sincere prayer to our Father to not allow any man into my life that wasn’t the one. After an entire dateless year, I thought the Lord had honored my prayer for purity of heart and mind when the man I met turned out to be another ex-boyfriend. I know that the Lord has good things for those who love Him, but I still deeply grieve the emotion, time, and energy I’ve lost along the way. I believe that hurting can sometimes help us in our loving. And Christ carries us all that long way.

    • Nancy, and my heart hurts to hear this. I have a few friends that share a similar story to you. I think we can only do our best to love God first and hope you make the right choices along the way. Its impossible to fully know someone until you have been in a serious relationship. I was lucky that those instincts turned out to be true and that Gabe and I aligned so well. But it is not always the case. Like you said, Christ carries us and he carries our pain as well as our triumphs. Hold onto the hope He still has that someone for you…the one who will love you for everything and heal a lot of that pain.
      Hugs to you~

  • Such a sweet story of how you two came to be! I love love stories 🙂

  • beautiful! I love this One Truth series! awesome idea! my husband is the first man I ever said “I love you” to. I still wish he could’ve been my first kiss though! 🙂

on a completely unrelated note, your plaid little wellie-foldover thingies (NO idea what they’re called) are perfection.

  • um, sweetest story ever!
you have the cutest little fam

  • Same for my husband and I. 🙂

  • Such a sweet story! It was like having my own read back to me. He was my first real everything too! I don’t think I could have handled having my heart broken even just once, so God definitely meant us to be together. Life is so great when you marry your best friend!

  • Anna, that is so sweet! Jason was my first and only too. I had no desire to play the dating game growing up because my mom taught me to date with a purpose.

  • you guys are the cutest. i love that photo of you two… i really hope theres someone out there for me that makes me feel immediately the way you did about gabe

  • My husband and I were each other’s only loves. I had my heart broken in college due to being a good girl and I just knew if I trusted God it would all work out. And it did… better than I could ever imagine.
PS: The picture of you and husband is so ADORABLE!!! Your boots are super cute too.

  • love this!! I had a crush on Caleb way back in elementary school…it only took 10 years for us to start dating 🙂

  • I think it’s important for gals to be OK with being single instead of feeling the need to serial date or always be with someone. It’s a great time to prepare yourself emotionally and spiritually for the right person when he comes along.

I dated around a lot for fun, but also had a lot of single down time which I really relished. When I met my husband, I knew instantly that he was the one — he was so different from anyone I ever dated. I don’t get sentimental very often, but I did last year in this little ode to my hubby:

  • This post made me grin from ear to ear. You guys are so adorable! My husband is actually the second guy I ever dated, but I was his first. I wish it was the same for both of us, but I’m grateful because I don’t believe I would have met him otherwise. I guess it all worked out:)

  • ahh, this post just makes my heart happy. thanks for sharing =)

  • This totally made me start to tear up. I’m so happy for you both. It’s incredible that God knows our hearts and souls so intimately that He could fashion another person’s heart and soul to fit ours… He is so good.

  • This makes me so happy to hear/read/know. I so believe that God creates us to meet our spouse, and I pray for my future husband every day. I don’t think I have met him yet, but I also think that there is a reason why this is so. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  • I love that! My current boyfriend (of about 10+ years) is my one and only – so nice to hear another similar story! Except, Sam and I first met in 6th grade. by 8th grade I was head over heels and our freshman year of high school we went to winter ball. I like him a lot. He is precious. Love hearing your story!

  • You two are so darn cute Anna. Love that he was your first and only. Matt and I met when were 18 at orientation for college. My roommate pointed him out first, but I actually thought his roommate was cute…turns out he was gay. Ooops. Haha. Still kinda funny. We became friends first…and lived together in a tiny college apartment with 4 of our friends before we started dating. We got married when we were both 27. So we’ve known each other for a long time and have had traveled around the world together…so many wonderful things. Feel fortunate! 🙂

  • What a beautiful story…God blessed you with eachother! I feel the same about my husband and I know that’s a gift <3

  • Aaaaaw this is so cute! It’s funny, my husband was my first everything, too. First boyfriend, first kiss, first….. first. Some of my friends think it’s so weird, but I’m really glad that he is.

Love is so sweet….
