“The world’s a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” -St. Augustine

This has been the year of travel for me and my family. It is part of my job now with The Brand Market, but we also have family states away and so it is part of our norm to drive long distances to see them. Next month, I will be traveling for a wedding and a few workshops. The homebody in me just wants to stay in my comfort zone unless Gabe is with me. I never want to leave my little ones even if it is just for a night. Some of the anxiety of traveling solo stems from getting sick easily over travel food (but real awful sick). However, since this is my reality right now I am going to put the travel anxiety behind me, and be thankful for the opportunity to see and discover. That being said, what are your favorite spots in D.C. and Chicago? I will have some time to explore with my sister and friends and would love to hear all about the must eats and see spots:)

At the beginning of summer, my college friend Ashley gave me a hair makeover. A much needed cut and an ombre color. She is one of the best there is! She totally styled this shoot as well with the super talented film photographer Sawyer Baird. So happy I got to hang out with them for the day and check out some cool spots in the north Georgia area:)

If you are local, you will have to head to J. Thomas and request Ashley Brandt Jarrel. She is the cream of the crop! (You can see part 1 tour of their space here!)

Hope you all have a wonderful summer weekend. Only a few left! We have some good friends from college coming to visit which so I gotta run and clean my house from top to bottom;)
x, Anna

Just started following your site! Love your style and your family is just darling. Here are a few recs for areas to check out in DC/Northern VA:

-Brunch Spots in DC: Ted’s Bulletin (try the homemade pop tarts!), Farmers Fishers and Bakers, Founding Farmers.
    – Eastern Market for flowers and food
    – 14th Street corridor for furniture shopping and while you are there stop for lunch or dinner at Le Diplomat and some beer at Church Key.
    – Old Town Alexandria- King street is filled with restaurants and shops and is very charming. Restaurant favs there include Pizza Paradiso and Vermilion. My favorite shop is the Lucky Knot!
    – Georgetown- check out Baked and Wired for some great cupcakes and coffee. On the same street, the Graham Hotel has a fabulous rooftop bar for drinks and a neat view.
    – Other neighborhoods to check out: China Town for more shopping and restaurants, H Street, Capitol Hill, Woodley Park (check out the zoo if you have time).
    – Take the metro to Clarendon in Arlington, VA and check out Liberty Tavern, Lyon Hall or Northside Social.
Email me if you have any questions!

  • You look fantastic!! Love the hair! And what a wonderful year of travel for you! I hate the actual traveling part (when will we be able to just teleport?!), but once a year I’ve gotten used to the 10+ hours of travel between going home to Hawaii from New York. It’s a must! So, since traveling that so much, anything else is a breeze, thankfully! 🙂 Wish I could recommend fave spots in D.C. and Chicago, but I’m sure you’ll have a great time!
