Ombré Lip Technique with Clinique

Ombre-lips-via-IHOD

I know I have openly admitted to my lack of commitment to a skin care routine before. Since my skin wasn’t too problematic, I was pretty lazy, until this past year my skin started to shift in different ways, and the winter seemed to take it’s toll. Add in pregnancy to the mix, and it was as if I was back in my teen years. It shouldn’t take breakouts and dry skin to get you to take care of yourself, but it certainly snapped me into an active hunt for better skin care options! …

Clinique-Consultationclinique-visit

I was hoping to start a skin care line that was easy to use, affordable, and actually improved my skin. When the opportunity arose to make a visit back to my high school and college love, Clinique, I felt all giddy over the counter consultation appointment. It’s been YEARS. And I mean, I never take time to get advice on skin or makeup options. I am an order-everything-on-amazon-and-hope-it-works kind of gal. Here’s a little bit about my experience…

Made an appointment, met the super sweet Clinique consultant Nancy, filled out an easy form about skin history, and got pampered for an hour. I didn’t want to leave the chair…..;) She explained some tips for general skin care, came up with a personalized skin care routine, best makeup color options, and a demonstration of the full routine in the process. I felt like I had a real facial done, and was ready to sign up for a weekly session (maybe I should come up with some semi-legit excuses to visit frequently…).

I’ll share more about the skin care products I went home with later, but today I thought it would be fun to share how we did an ombre lip look with the new Clinique Pop Lip color + primer. Since my closet options have grown way slim, it was fun to at least get creative with a lip look! Summer is the time I like to go a little bolder with coral shades, so we used two complimentary hues for this look.

Here is the breakdown for an Ombré Lip Technique:
1) Cocoa Peach Liner – Apply around the edge of the lip either right inside your natural line or right on top for a fuller look.
2) Blend in with finger or sponge.
3)  Add base color Poppy Pop – No matter which two colors you choose, apply the bolder or darker color first. Apply and fill in your entire lip area.
4) Add second color Melon Pop – With your lighter complimentary color, apply only to the middle areas of your top and bottom lips. Press lips together to blend.

The Clinique Pop Lip colours include primer which keeps the color in place for hours, but unlike mattes or stains, it holds that super moist look for a long period of time. This was my favorite feature! A few other products I got color tested for, and really loved: Hydrating CC Cream (has SPF 30, super sheer, and gives you a natural glow), Clearing Concealer, and Melon Cheek Pop.

Can’t wait to tell you all about the skin care products I went home with. So far, SO good.

  • First of all, your skin always looks flawless! I would never have been able to tell you’ve had a “shift” in your skin 🙂 Second, LOVE the ombré lips! Such a fun way to spice up a look. I really like that you kept the rest of your makeup simple. I think that’s really key when doing something bolder like this. Thanks for the tips!

    • Aw well shucks;) I just avoid close ups! ha! But I agree….I tend to be more of a fan of natural makeup so if I go bold on the eyes I keep it light on the lips and vice versa:) Thanks Brooke!

I also rediscovered Clinique recently and fell in love! They have some great products – eyelash primer, serums, etc. – and the lipsticks are gorgeous. I can’t afford to use their stuff exclusively, but for certain items they are just about the best. You look awesome in that new lip!

    • I absolutely love their facial serum. I didn’t realize it was possible for my skin to feel so hydrated for so long! Thanks so much Sharyn for the kind compliment! x

  • I love the ombre lip idea! Ive seen it a bit but haven’t had the nerve to give it a go, but this is selling me 🙂

  • Your skin looks great! I’ve always wanted to give Clinique a go, but it’s still slightly out of my price range 🙁 Oh and great tips for ombre lips technique
