Backyard Dinner Party

backyard lights and dinner parties

For those of you who were concerned about where our dining room table and chairs went after our dining room re-design, here is how we have been putting them to use! Backyard dinner parties! The humidity finally broke for a little while during the evenings this week, which dare I say felt a step closer to fall? I took full advantage of the evening hours with the cooler temps since I have to hibernate from the heat during the day. (Salute to all the pregnant mothers just trying to waddle their way through summer. Solidarity.) Fresh flowers and outdoor lights can go a long way when it comes to setting the atmosphere for a conversational hang out. It actually doesn’t take much to host a fun dessert and drinks hour or summer supper! Just grab a stack of your favorite dishes and string up some outdoor lights over your patio.

DETAILS:
Turkish towel
Vintage Candlesticks and taper candles
Thrifted lantern used as a vase (similar)
Birch wrapped vases (you can find on etsy!)
Gold flatware
Dinner Plates
Side Plates
Dining Chairs – West Elm (sold out)
Pillows: One, Two, Three
Outdoor String Lights

I just used eucalyptus and peonies in a large oversized lantern I found at a flea market along with a few mini arrangements in the birch vases. You don’t have to make the table setup elaborate. Just flatware, plates, and wine glasses. Even dessert is a fun way to gather friends after the sunsets with some cheesecake and moscato wine. A good playlist doesn’t hurt either. (Currently digging The Chainsmokers new album!)

My family moved back to town this week which is only something we have been hoping and praying for since they moved away 8 years ago! Needless to say there will be many evenings in our backyard celebrating something that seems too good to be true! Wishing you all a happy hump day and hopefully a cooler week ahead.

P.S. My dress is from Rachel Pally, and isn’t maternity although there is a great amount of comfortable give which means I can wear it post baby as well! Rachel Pally also has a whole stunning maternity line.

  • Everything (one) is gorgeous!

Family close by is wonderful. Our new house is 2 miles from my mom and 5 miles from Danny’s dad. We love it.

  • so beautiful!!! i want to go to this party 🙂 and congratulations!! that’s so wonderful everyone is back together. xo jillian

  • This looks so lovely and cosy! You are looking great as well, keep it up in the heat!

  • This is like an image of a fairy land mixed with Jane Austen. I love how you put together such an elegant atmosphere with very simple items. So many times, I think it’s easy to hold ourselves back from entertaining others because we think it will be too overwhelming with the work, but you’re right-it can really be as simple as a dessert. Thanks for providing this awesome example and inspiration! (and for showing us what you did with the table and chairs) 😉

  • Where is that beautiful bracelet from?

  • I love this so much! We really enjoy hosting on our back porch, but moving the shindig into the yard is a great idea! I’m hoping for some cooler weather, as I too have been hiding my pregnant self away from the heat all summer.

Although, I guess that’s done for you now. Congratulations on the beautiful new baby girl!
