DIY Wrap Around Cape Tutorial

October 19, 2012

DIY Wrap Cape | In Honor of Design
{Coated Denim: Henry & BelleWide Brim Fedora, Booties: Sam Edelman}

I admit, that capes are a very intimidating thing. You know what else is intimidating? A sewing machine. Well I am on a roll today friends of kicking intimidation in the face. You know what inspired me? Audrey Hepburn (of course)….

Mind you, I agree that nothing can beat fur and organza…..or Audrey. I translated this design to a version I felt I could actually wear in the coming months.

Materials:
1 yard fabric (Update: double folded! So technically it is two yards. Apologies for any confusion! Most fabrics are folded over when cut, but just in case!)
(Tweed is great because you don’t need to sew a lining.)
4 yards Velvet Ribbon – 1 inch width (Find at Hobby Lobby or MJTrim)
2 Buttons
2 Hook and Latch Clasps
Fabric Scissors

All instructions included on the infographic:) If you want to print or email, download it here.
I have let you all off easy so far with super simple DIY’s. This one is intermediate, but I know you can conquer it. A cable knit sweater material or even full velvet would be fun too. I have grand plans for some mini versions for Veronica:D Will keep you posted on that one.

Have a happy weekend ahead!
x, Anna

10 Favorite Winter Coats

November 4, 2016

Camel Wool Coat (Similar)

We are finally getting a cool front this weekend here in Atlanta, (and I mean cool front by a high of 71 degrees) and I pulled out the coats and hats for the cold mornings. I know you Canadians are laughing at me! I love the season of layering, and coats are the finishing touch to a look in the winter months. I go for cozy and functional first, but I can’t resist a bold color or good pattern either. These images are all from last season (you can find them in them from posts in the style section), but I’ve rounded up ten favorites that are 30% – 40% off right now. Hopefully it saves you the hunt for that perfect winter coat.

Taking ten (or maybe even 15) for yourself.

How in the world are you supposed to take ten minutes for yourself during the days you hit the ground running the moment the alarm goes off? I have had to learn how the hard way. After one too many pent up emotional outbursts and tired tears, I decided it was worth fighting for the ten minutes a day for myself, rather than apologizing for all the harm a hurricane of emotions would do if I didn’t…

Living Room Makeover Reveal

August 21, 2015

Living Room | IHOD
Alas! After months of buying and returning pillows (wink), we have finally finished our living room makeover. Just in time for me to get the re-arranging fever all over again. Kidding….maybe.

I can’t wait to share all the details over the next few weeks, but for today, here are the before and after pics! It is incredible what a fresh space can do for your whole family. It has cleared up some mental clutter and become a favorite place to hang for our family. Gabe is particularly fond of the old school feel news reading nook it provides him. I am thankful for the ample couch space for naps;) We basically just had the basics in this room for the last few years. You may remember the last update… VIEW FULL POST

DIY Wrap Cape | In Honor of Design

The Friday before a holiday always feels like it should earn a blue ribbon. You made it, although out of breath and maybe panting;) Our whole family has been in need of a re-charge, as even little Gabriel woke up yesterday crying because he was “too tired for Kindergarten.” (Which never happens.) I think our bodies always know when we are gearing up for rest, as it seems it starts to shutdown ahead of time. You know?… VIEW FULL POST

Old-Young Hollywood Party – Halloween 2011

October 31, 2011

So we finally made the decision to be these two lovas…
Holly  Golightly and Paul ‘Fred’ Varjack -Breakfast At Tiffany’s
My normally goofball husband had to wear a serious costume and play a serious role this year. I thanked him for playing along so well. He found the perfect Paul Varjack tweed blazer at Goodwill the morning of the party. He likes it so much he wore it the next day as well;) I had so much fun dressing up as my all time favorite Old Hollywood leading lady (Audrey). And just for the record, the cigs are for costume;)
Out of respect for our lovely guests, I won’t post their photos here, except for Katie,
A dear friend who came to visit for the weekend….
They are newlyweds who dressed up as Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn – Project Runway. (He looked just like him with powdered white hair and all!) Although the Married sign wouldn’t really apply to Tim and Hiedi;)
Being a procrastinator, I finally made the infamous Breakfast at Tiffany’s mask and earplugs the morning of the party. Luckily, Hobby Lobby + my craft room had everything I needed to make it!

Photo props that were illustrated by my friend Lauren Stiebler for Oh Happy Day blog.
Tissue Poms made using this tutorial.
Smores on a stick, muddy buddy chex mix, and cream puffs were dessert appetizers of choice. Recognize the glammed up pumpkin? 😉
You might also recognize the glitter candles in this table setting:)
Again, most of my party decor found at Hobby Lobby. The local thrift store had the tall clear canister, lantern, and mason jars!

We had all kinds of celebrities come to the party;)
It was such a fun time with friends, which is why its fun to throw a party once in a while. It brings everyone together! Happy Halloween!!

P.S. Its the last day to enter this fabulous giveaway!
