DIY Leather Pocket Tee

August 8, 2012

This Leather pocket tee DIY inspiration came from a Zara Tee. It only requires beginner level sewing skills – no machine needed! I plan on added a few more pockets to a dress or shirt here and there because its so simple to do and the result is really fun:)
{Wrap Bracelet: c/o Conversation Pieces, Craftsandlove, gift from sis, Jeans: Levis, Tee: Target to DIY}
Supplies:
Grey Tee (Got mine for $8 at Target)
Leather or faux leather fabric
(This swatch I picked up from a local interior design store – often they get rid of their old swatch books for free!)
Thread and Needle
Scissors
Pliers
Instructions:
1) Pre-shrink your tee so that you can prevent unwanted wrinkling around the pocket.
2) Pre-measure and cut your pocket shape of choice out of your leather fabric.
(It makes it easier to cut 1/2 of the pocket, fold in half, and cut around the folded edge to finish a symmetrical pocket.)
3) Hand stitch or sew along the edge with a strong needle or leather needle and thick black thread.
Time: 15 -30 minutes (depending if you machine sew or hand stitch)
Cost: $8

Tips for sewing with leather:
Use a pliers to pull the needle in and out or you will get blisters! If its faux leather it is a thinner fabric and easier to sew.
Check often that your pocket is lined up straight with your tee so that you prevent crooked lines.
Using a thimble might also help when you are weaving the needle in and out.
And now for a little humor, I present to you the pony tail flip (inspired by my sister Madeline)….

The True Beauty Files: Sorbet Mix + Dressing Up Your Tees

May 21, 2012

{Tee: J.Crew, Denim: ON, Scarf: Deloom, Necklace: c/o Twillypop, Shades: H&M, Watch: DIY, Bracelet: made, Sandals: Nine West}
Style Word: Dress up an every day tee with a scarf or necklace and some heels. An easy and effortless look which is comfortable to boot;)
Well, despite my heavy work load, I did in fact manage to sun soak over the weekend;)
How about you? Hope your weekend was splendid!
P.S….if you really want to throw someone off, pronounce the word sorbet with a heavy t (Soar-beT). Sometimes its just fun to mess with words and get reactions;)

A lookbook for the modern modeste.
“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”

DIY: Leather Fringe Tiered Necklace

April 19, 2012

Here is very easy level DIY that is a perfect summer accessory to go along with your tees or dresses:)
These would also go well with the leather bolted bracelets DIY!
Supplies:
Leather swatch samples
(got mine from my MIL’s old sample collection-she is an interior designer)
Chain
Jump rings
Lobster Clasps
(find these in at a craft store or etsy!)

Instructions:
1) On one side of your leather piece, pre-draw your angled shape.
Leave enough room on the top to fold over the chain later.
2) Cut out your shape and continue to cut slits along the diagonal sides of your shape (about 1/8 in.) at different lengths.
3. Measure out your chain and attach the jumprings and lobster clasp with a pliers.
4. Turn your piece over, and add liquid stitch (my best friend) along the top edge and fold over the chain at the bottom middle section. Let dry.
You can make your chains different lengths for a tiered necklace look! If you can get your leather swatches from an interior design friend, than the total cost is only the cost of your chain and attachments. Have fun:)

10 Couples Costume Ideas.

October 5, 2018

Gabe was always a good sport in college for theme parties, and we just kept finding ways to keep the humor going over the years. We rounded up 10 relatively easy couples costume ideas for you today, and I am super impressed with how legit some of these look! Read on for all 10 ideas.

Luke and Leia – For our family costume last year we did a Star Wars theme (more on family costumes soon!), so after all the kids chose their characters we ended up as Luke and Leia. (Gabe switched to Hans for trick or treat night – ha!) I couldn’t find a costume so ended up wearing a robe backwards with a pair of boots. Gabe decided to do the look from the Yoda and Luke training scene, and sweat stained an old tee to pair with some Khakis. If you have a little one, we used an Ergo Baby carrier to put yoda on his back.

Style File: Basics for the Gents

April 27, 2012

I had a reader request some tips for the gents, so I am going to start with the basics, and where the best places are to find them. I love my husbands style so I had him approve this in advance;)
Striped Tie: Etsy, Basic Tees: J. Crew, Belt 1: Asos, Belt 2: Asos, Pants: Old Navy, Shorts: Old Navy, Shoes: Bonobos
I don’t know about your man, but mine knows what he likes, and sticks to it. He keeps his closet simple, unlike me who never can say no to a cute pair of shoes;) He is a guy’s guy, who doesn’t like to look too contrived. We are willing to pay a little more for the basics, knowing he will wear them to death. (Except for pants because we seem to get pen stains on every pair;)) H&M had shirts for $15 the other week that were just the right fit and style.
