We have lived in Atlanta for about 8 years now, and still have so much we have yet to see and do. It is a very large city with a good deal of options for families to take advantage of. May usually offers prime weather, so we headed to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for a day trip adventure over Mother’s Day weekend because our kids have never been!

There are several cool things to note about the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, one being that it offers events and even concerts throughout the summer. I love that they have an area just for kids with things to play and climb and explore. The day we went they had a music and dance session for toddlers, as well as crafts for the older kids that centered around gardening.

We brought along our Baby Jogger City Select Lux which arrived just in time for daytime excursions like this. I’ve been wanting a double stroller for so long, but had a hard time finding one that collapses easily, and could actually fit compactly in the trunk of our car. This stroller has the option to just stroll with one seat as well as rotate out a pram or carseat attachments. There are multiple ways to use it.  This stroller is a dream for my kids ages right now. Rocco and Azelie love to cruise around in it, and Max hops on the back skateboard attachment when he gets tired of walking. There is plenty of room at the bottom to store all of the baby necessities I bring along such as snacks, water bottles, diapers, etc.

We ended up roaming the gardens all morning and letting the kids explore all of the blooms that were at their height. The ropes and playground of course were the big hit. I personally loved getting ideas for what plants do well here in the south as we are trying to plan out our front yard. I hope to bring the kids back here this summer for some splash pad fun that just opened up!

With Easter break and spring break hitting the area, I know like our family, many of you will be looking for ways to spend time with each other. These are (in my humble opinion) some of the best brunch spots in Atlanta:

Ponce City Market – New to the east side, Ponce City Market was a giant warehouse completely re-done to host a numerous amount of shops and eateries that reminds me so much of Chelsea Market, NYC. You can eat outside or indoors, with ample space for big parties and lots of exploring to do. A wide variety of brunch foods to love.

Julianna’s Crepes – (Pictured above.) You feel like you step into a movie scene at Julianna’s. It is a located on a quieter street, but there is a steady stream of regulars who have discovered the mouthwatering crepe spot. Remember this post?

Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits – A perfect pick up on the go spot for arguably the best biscuits in town. They just opened! Pick up a few and take it to a local park for a morning picnic.

West Egg Cafe – Chicken and Waffles. Need I say more? Also conveniently located next to Westside Provisions District where you can find a bunch of fun shops, Jeni’s Ice Cream, and the new coffee.

Sun in My Belly – A really cool atmosphere  with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a killer brunch menu you won’t soon forget.

Superica – In the mood for Tex-Mex? This is your brunch spot. Located next to one of my favorite shops on the east side, and a delicious spread for a mid morning feast.

If you are outside the perimeter and up for a drive north:

BB’s Bagel’s – Bronx style bagels right in the suburbs. It is small joint, but worthy of a mention, because their bagels and cream cheese spreads are the best in the area. Take them to go or eat in their airstream sized diner.

Drem Waffles + Coffee – Nutella and Banana, Egg and Bacon, Yogurt parfait….loads of options for the waffle fanatic. This is tucked in an unsuspecting corner of Suwanee, GA.

Atlanta continues to sprout up some of the best tastes in the food scene and locals are never short on options to visit. However, I think Marcel is current reigning king on the top of Gabe and I’s lists of best tastebud experience of the year.

Rocco will be 4 weeks old tomorrow, and in the complete blur of the last few weeks, Gabe and I decided to press pause and steal some time with each other before the next busy week arrives. Day dates are a current preference since we both hit a wall at the ripe hour of 9pm;)

We headed to Marcel, tucked into a corner in the charming Westside Provisions District for our lunch date. Once you enter the door, you feel as if you have stepped into an intoxicating atmosphere of old school swank and European class thanks to the brilliant details of vintage photographs, leather tufted booths, and scripty menus. The whole experience convinced us we should return for any excuse we could find because of its enticing, linger, and stay the day atmosphere. The outdoor patio offers a cozy setting suited for a summer evening or crisp fall day. Gabe decided he should be a professional taste tester if it involved long hours at places like Marcel.

Marcel is the newest in the line up of Atlanta’s Chef Ford Fry restaurants. We offer our sincerest salute. For the menu prices, you couldn’t get a finer experience. Here is the line up Gabe and I tried (and died and went to heaven with):

Appetizers: Blue Crab Brioche + Broiled Goat Cheese
Salad: The Marcel
Dishes: Marcel’s Stack + L’ Entrecote

I never tire of walking into a door of a place you have never been.
You might imagine by the outside of Aglamesis Bro. ice cream parlor that the inside surely serves a good scoop.
Well it may have had to do with the pink seats, or black and white tiling, or the old fashioned counter, but I can most certainly report that the ice cream met our high expectations. It could compete for favorite tastebud pleaser in the midwest I am certain.

After The Brand Market workshop I wanted to catch up with Andrea Dozier who photographed the day, so we went ahead and snapped some pics to share with you all. If you ever drive through Cincinnati, you will be happy for making a pitstop at one of their two locations (Oakley and Montgomery).

• Fun Facts about Aglamesis:
• It was opened in 1908 by two brothers.
• The marble was imported from Portugal to build the inside counters.
• The parlor’s  popularity carried it through the Great Depression and WWII.
• To this day, it is still family owned and operated.
• Aglamesis Brothers is considered one of the last standing original ice cream parlors of a bygone era.

I am fascinated by facts like these:)

12th South is a happening street in the heart of Nashville, with some of the coolest shops and eateries in town. Park your car and make your way down the row. Here are a few of the spots I was able to visit this past weekend…

Imogene + Willie – A mix of artisans and handmade american clothing as well as some of the finest leather + denim products. What appears to be a car garage leads into an eclectic and hip store spread complete with details to soak up in every corner. Worth a gander just to gawk at that seating area!

If you are exploring in the morning, take a pitstop for coffee at Portland Brew for a good cup of joe and a place to sit and people watch for a bit;) If it is lunch hour, head over to Edley’s BBQ…the aroma of this place fills the streets and you might find yourself in a trance until you get your hands on a taste.

Whites Mercantile – Continue to walk down the road a couple blocks till you reach Whites Mercantile. Just be careful, this place might zap all 60 minutes of your time as it is loaded with well curated fashion, home, food, and even children’s items. A perfect mix of modern taste and laid back style, this store has an atmosphere that makes you want to fill your suitcases with the unique selection of goods. Their website is a pretty good indication of the type of experience you get walking into the storefront!

Las Paletas – You can’t leave the street without stopping into Las Paletas. Not much to see on the outside, but these natural flavored pops are famous for their rich and refreshing flavor to accomodate the Nashville humidity. I made sure I left double fisting. The Mexican popsicles are almost synonymous with the true Nashville experience;) Across the street from Las Paletas is a stunning state park you can take a walk through if you don’t feel like reclining on the front porch.

So there you have it! One street with enough goodness to keep you in one place and get a fun Nashville experience. Any other faves I missed?

Before the Hope Spoken conference began, I had the day to see Dallas with my roomie and long time blog friend Jen. We spent the day exploring the Bishop Arts District. Highly recommend if you have a few hours to eat, meander, and explore! 

Oddfellow’s had an incredible cup of Joe in addition to the green chile and short rib scramle. Take me back! The setting was conducive to two gals who had lots of life to catch up on. The natural light floods into the windows and art hangs on every corner. I wouldn’t mind if they built one of these around the corner from me.

A chocolaterie, furniture stop, gift store, floral shop, and a place to pick up one of the best slices of pie you will ever try. It is actually a challenge to leave Bishop street without a wide grin and satisfied stomach.

I went for a a travel outfit that would go easy on the baby bump, and would accomodate some strolling:

If I could, I would hand you all a cup of Oddfellow’s house coffee along with a slice of Key Lime Pie from Emporium. Guess you will have to just make a detour next time you are in Dallas!

As you may remember, I did a round up for Conde Nast Traveler of Atlanta’s best coffee shops. Haley and I should work on round 2, because we both agreed it was our favorite project to work on obviously so;)

These are additional shots of the quaintest little french coffee shop, Amelie’s French Bakery. There are quite a range of sweets for the stomach as well as for the eyes! Vintage couches, plate walls, intriguing portraits, and mismatched chairs. I think it’ll take a few visits to soak it all in!

Mark this spot as a must visit, especially with February around the corner. Its got that old romantic feel;)
