DIY Desk Accessory: Lined Wooden Boxes

April 26, 2012

I have been wanting to share this DIY with you since it is something I use often, and is a fun way to re-purpose wooden boxes. I saved a few that came with some Melissa & Doug toys for the kids. They had no lids, so I thought the best use would be to turn them into desk accessories;)
Supplies:
Wooden Boxes
(you can also find these at a craft store)
Patterned Paper
Modge Podge
Acrylic Paints
Paint Brush
Scissors
Directions:
Paint your boxes your desired color using craft paint. Let dry.
Line up your box on your paper, and trace along the bottoms of the boxes. You cut 1/4 inch (depending on the width of the sides) down from the traced size. Make sure the paper fits well inside the box.
Modge Podge the bottom of your boxes with a paint brush and immediately press and smooth your paper along the bottom. Let dry.

You can use these for holding stationary, business cars, jewelry, washi tape collection…you name it. Anything to help me stay organized is a plus. Now onto the closets…

Highlights of the busy weekend:
Date night that included real good southern food. Skee ball and arcade games followed (we thrive off competition).
Witnessing a friend’s beautiful baby be baptized and celebrating with good friends.
Veronica took her first steps (I think she knows she turned one)!
Antique market hunting. One of my finds here.
Sunday night grilling. Just the four of us.

The True Beauty Files:
A lookbook for the modern modeste.
“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”

DIY: Leather Fringe Tiered Necklace

April 19, 2012

Here is very easy level DIY that is a perfect summer accessory to go along with your tees or dresses:)
These would also go well with the leather bolted bracelets DIY!
Supplies:
Leather swatch samples
(got mine from my MIL’s old sample collection-she is an interior designer)
Chain
Jump rings
Lobster Clasps
(find these in at a craft store or etsy!)

Instructions:
1) On one side of your leather piece, pre-draw your angled shape.
Leave enough room on the top to fold over the chain later.
2) Cut out your shape and continue to cut slits along the diagonal sides of your shape (about 1/8 in.) at different lengths.
3. Measure out your chain and attach the jumprings and lobster clasp with a pliers.
4. Turn your piece over, and add liquid stitch (my best friend) along the top edge and fold over the chain at the bottom middle section. Let dry.
You can make your chains different lengths for a tiered necklace look! If you can get your leather swatches from an interior design friend, than the total cost is only the cost of your chain and attachments. Have fun:)

1st and 3rd Birthday Celebration Details

April 18, 2012

Since this was a party with lots of little ones and double the amount of adults, I focused on having a relaxed and open setting with good food, drinks, and activities on hand:) I wrapped both the food table and kids table with kraft paper (you can buy it by the roll). The kids could use their space to color and it also makes for an easy clean up! Since it was a party for Gabriel AND Veronica, I used Navy, Lime, and Bright Pink as the color theme. I had such a hard time finding these colors in stores (especially navy) so I was thrilled when these shops came through for me! ….
Plates, Napkins, Cutlery, Balloons, Striped Straws via PlatesandNapkins.com (the only place I could find these colors!)
Cupcake liners and toppers kit via The Papered Nest
Tissue Pom Kit via Pom Love
We were blessed to celebrate with many good friends, and hopefully captured some memories for our children:) I will post three party DIY’s tomorrow so stay tuned!
P.S. The winner of the GCOCH giveaway was #3….Danielle! Please contact me for info! Thanks to everyone who entered! Look forward to seeing you on the site:)
