“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”

Style Files: Ethereal + Edgy Beachfront Looks

March 30, 2012

{Ethereal – 1 || 2 || 3 || 4 }
{Edgy – 1 || 2 || 3 || 4 || 5}
With this beautiful weather this weekend we are hoping to take advantage of the lake we live near by that has a beachside! I lean torwards the one piece looks (the idea that less skin is more mystery;)) and dreamed up a few beach side options for you all. And many of them are steals! Which would you go for? Edgy or Ethereal?

DIY: Kate Spade Inspired Dot Stud Earrings

March 29, 2012

I saw these little beauties floating around on pinterest and of course being smitten by all things Kate Spade I wanted to own them. My frugal and creative wheels starting turning (can never turn that off unfortunately) and a simple and easy DIY was born…
Supplies:
Wood Furniture Buttons ($1.47 for a pack of 30!)
Nail Polish color of choice
Earring flatbacks
Super glue
Tape
Clear nail polish (optional)
I used clear nail polish on one set for a shiny finished wood look and left the other unfinished.
Cost: I only had to buy the wooden buttons and earring backs, both which come with several pieces. The rest are items you usually have on hand, so the cost is next to nothing!

Instructions:
1. Cover half of the wooden studs with tape (washi worked great for me).
2. Paint the other half with nail color of choice. (I used a few favorites I had on hand: Essie Tour de Finance & Turquoise and Caicos). Let dry for a few minutes.
3. Remove the tape and attach the flat back earrings to the back of the wooden studs using super glue. Let dry.
These would be fun in almost any color:) Share your results if you try it out!

P.S. Another fantastic colorblock DIY I saw via Green Wedding Shoes for you to check out!

The dreamy world of Ruche Bridal…

March 28, 2012

If you haven’t already, take a moment and get lost in the dreamy world of the Ruche Bridal Lookbook. These are just a few of my favorites from their brand new Bridal Line. The retro modern feel to the looks is so enchanting. And don’t even get me started on the shoes…
I can’t wait till my next sister gets married. Its only a matter of time;)

True Beauty Files: Did you say Electric Purple?

March 27, 2012

{Dress: Tulle, Cardi: Target, Nude Pumps: Jessica Simpson, Necklace: c/o LYLIF, Cuffs: c/o LYLIF, Francesca’s, Rings: H&M, Skinny Belt: F21, Clutch: DIY here}
Well the week didn’t get off to the best start. Was truck down by the flu yesterday as well as my little guy. After last week, we are really ready for our normal schedule. However, we were blessed with a beautiful weekend, so I am grateful for that. How was yours?

Style Word: Continuing the theme of working with what you have I pulled out a few things in the same shade of vibrant purple and decided they would look much better together. I almost bought a dress over the weekend this color and thankfully took a second look in my closet first. Try wearing your dress as a skirt!

Style File: To Market, To Market…

March 23, 2012

When I saw this image on ONA, I just wanted to hope in and walk around that beautiful flower market in a long flowy skirt. Something you get the itch to do in the spring:) I re-created the look for you too!
Really happy to see the weekend. Its been a long one…
All I know is, the only thing I need to have on my weekend planner is UK Basketball and The Hunger Games Premier…;) Excited is an understatement.
I am taking a poll on Facebook. Team Peeta or Gail?

HAPPY WEEKEND!

DIY: RUFFLE WATERFALL TEE

March 22, 2012

When I passed this fabric at the craft store last week I immediately was intrigued by it.
Ever wonder how to upcycle a perfectly good tee or tank that is stained?
Well this fabric saved a couple shirts for me! And it takes 10 minutes to do!
Supplies:
Liquid Stitch (Better than hem tape miracle worker)
Ruffle Fabric (Found mine here, but it is sold many places)
 Tee or Tank
One half yard can upcycle 3 shirts!
Total Cost: $5.00
Instructions:
1) This fabric comes in many different colors at Hobby Lobby. Hunt your closet for the shirt you want to perform plastic surgery on that best matches your fabric color;)
2) Measure your fabric over your tee or tank (I used an old J.Crew tank that was stained in front) and trim a piece in vertical direction of ruffles that measures a couple inches from either side of the shirt.
3) Place Liquid stitch alongside all edges and let dry for twenty minutes. Trim alongside the top and bottom hems. I left it slightly longer on the bottom for a better waterfall effect. What is great about this fabric is that it is a very soft tee-shirt like material so you don’t have to worry about the edges shredding.
Feel free to email me with questions.
Stay tuned for another fun fashion DIY coming up next week;)
