I go crazy for anything Emerson Fry (previously Emersonmade). I am sure you can relate. The line just has that effect on you. Thrilled to share with you a sneak preview they sent over of the Spring 2012 line launching today! Be still my heart.
When I received the March J. Crew magazine in the mail I only needed to see the cover to know it was probably not the best thing for me to look through the rest of the catalogue. I was already having major outfit envy over the cover page outfit alone. Then it hit me…
I could totally DIY this baby….
And so with a 1/2 yard of fabric, a zipper, and some hem tape….
I am now the proud owner of the must have jade green maxi I SO needed in my spring line up:) Of course, it doesn’t have the cool pockets (my next project to tackle) but it still does the trick!
To make one of your own (no sew or sew!):
Take your measurements around widest part of your hips and from waist to floor. Cut fabric as needed leaving a half inch wider on all edges for hems.
*UPDATE: I used liquid stitch the second go round and it works miracles! Definately the solution for those of you scared of the sewing machine. It is stronger than hem tape and easy to use!
Using your sewing machine, hem tape, or liquid stitch, create a 1/2 inch hem on top and bottom.
Continue to sew or liquid stitch your zipper to the top end of both sides of your fabric.
Once attached, below the zipper, fold and hem the sides together down to the back of the knee. (I hemmed one side and left the other side un-hemmed. I layered this side below the hemmed side and sewed together.) Finish hemming both sides separately after the knee point so that you have a slit in the back to leave for walking room 🙂 Try on your skirt and measure the amount on each side you need to fold in. Once this is measured, fold in the sides on each side, flip the skirt inside out and stitch or hem tape together. Cut excess fabric.
I have great respect and admiration for Jena Coray of Modish as a blogger and entrepreneur(she is incredibly sweet to boot), so when I heard she was putting together an e-book, the Tip-Top Pitch Kit, I was so excited to see what she had in store!
So, I was honored to take part with 26 other bloggers surveyed to be a part of the results of this e-book. We were asked questions of what we look for in a pitch from a business from a bloggers perspective. What we love and what makes us cringe.
I read this e-book from front to back and I can honestly say, it is an easy read loaded with helpful information that can help you successfully land media and blog attention for your product.
You can read more about it, and download the book here.
You have seen me wear some Brianne’s beautiful pieces in lookbook posts. (Such as here or here.) Today, Be More Beautiful is generously offering to give the Captivating Colors Statement Necklace to one lucky girl. Its my personal favorite from her spring line.
Head on over to the IHOD facebook page to see how you can EASILY win this beauty!
I actually managed to tackle that to do list I mentioned! I think when you speak it aloud or write it down, the chances of getting things done are greater…:)
So the debate on colored denim was between golden yellow and jade green…I ended up with coral. Its an all time favorite color. After trying on colored denim at HM and Target, these fit the best. Are you adding fun colored denim to your spring line up? Let me know if you have found a good pair!
Style Word: There are so many fun ways to mix prints this season. I layered two prints above as one option. Liz has a great round up of more print mixing ideas for you to check out!
(Leave your outfit post links in the comment section! I am working on finding the best way to link up for upcoming posts!)
P.S. Check back in tomorrow for a fun new giveaway and the winner of the Poshlocket giveaway (you still have today to enter)!
The True Beauty Files:
A lookbook for the modern modeste.
“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”
I’ve got a little arm swag DIY for you today:) Let me warn you this is not as easy as last week’s ombre wrap bracelets. This is what I call an intermediate level DIY, but it is still fairly easy..
Materials:
Leather or pleather strips measured and cut to fit around your wrist size
(you can buy strips of it at a craft store, but I cut mine from leather samples I had)
Metal or rhinestone studs (found minehere and here)
Using the point of a sharp knife (make sure you have your leather pieces on a cutting board), cut small slits the width of your metal pieces along your leather strip.
Insert rhinestone and pyramid studs and close prongs in the back. Use a pliers if needed to close tightly.
Using your pliers, clasp your crimp pieces over the ends of the leather pieces tightly.
Add your jump rings and lobster clasps on the ends.
Wear your arm swag and mix and match with other bracelets of choice.
(Third bracelet is from Poshlocket -giveaway going on here.)
