I am beyond thrilled to be a part of the DECORATE book tour. The well known and beloved blogger, Holly Becker of Decor8, released this beautiful work of genius this year through Chronicle books! Have you gotten your hands on a copy yet?! Well I was lucky enough to receive my copy before our road trip, and I spent HOURS pouring over these pages!! I wanted to take notes and copy paste many of the rooms into my home;)
Tangible tips, gorgeous decor, photography brilliance, and uniquely styled rooms that you can bet you have never seen before!! Just a few reasons, I am head over heels for this book, and plan on referencing it quite frequently when I move into our new home in a few weeks! It had to be such an adventure composing this book, so I asked Holly the following question:
What was the best part of composing this book, & what do you hope readers will take from it?
Working with photographer Debi Treloar and design writer Joanna Copestick – it was lovely to work with such professional women with years of industry experience. Traveling with Debi was especially nice, she was so helpful and since I’d never styled for a book before, her warmth and friendliness really made me comfortable so I was able to do my job and feel completely confident. I wanted Decorate to be much like my blog, decor8, to include a community of people, which is why I interviewed nearly 100 people and quoted them throughout — I wanted the book to feel a bit bloggy in that sense. Plus, I don’t believe I am the ultimate voice when it comes to decorating, in fact I don’t believe anyone is THE guru of design. Everyone has an opinion and a right to one because decorating is subjective and so I wanted to take the best advice out there from the design community and pull it all together so Decorate would contain a myriad of inspiring thoughts to motivate readers. With so many opinions in the book laying next to photographs, the reader is drawn in to actually reading the book and not just looking at the pretty pictures – the quick bites of text are fun to read — plus the point becomes clear to the reader with the flip of each page that there is no ONE single way to decorate but that you should allow basic principles to guide your journey though most of decorating is truly from the heart – your heart.
Last night my husband and I watched “Return to Me” as a tradition to bring in our anniversary. Its one of our all time favorite movies. One of my favorite lines of the movie is when the grandpa tells David Duchovny that “her heart truly started beating for the first time” when she met you. This has always been the way I felt about my husband. Sorry, I know getting sappy. We stayed up late talking and reflecting on the last three years. We both agreed that there is really no way of knowing to what capacity your vows really mean on the day of your wedding. Each day the vows we committed to each other have only grown in meaning and understanding. I can honestly say I love this man more deeply know than on our wedding day, and I know it will only grow deeper.
When you are dating and fall in love, there are not many life experiences under your belt. After going through serious sickness, losing loved ones, moving across the country, and having two babies, you would say it could really test the strength of your relationship. It is in each of those times though that I realized why I married my husband. Strong, selfless, devoted, faithful, and more loving than I feel I deserve. Its in the day to day life that I fall hard for him. Changing diapers, cleaning the kitchen, store runs….its those little things he does for me to help that I never thought could be so romantic;)
All in all, I am humbled to be married to such a stud. I woke up this morning with a large bouquet of fresh cut flowers by my bedside, and it took everything in me not to shed tears of gratitude for our marriage, our children, and the joy that has come with it. God is good. Oh….and what did I get him?? I finally compiled and ordered our wedding album:) But shhh….its a surprise!
P.S. All our incredible photography was done none other than our friends TimWill Photography
