Gifted Magazine has been released, and as expected, its pretty awesome. All you need to know is that Ez from Creature Comforts was the genius behind it. It is filled with DIY’s, printables, gift ideas, etc.
I already spent a while pouring over the pages and I am sure it will not be the last time.
These are just a few of my favorite spotted DIY’s.
I’m guest posting over at Say Yes to Hoboken for Liz Stanley’s blognog series. I’ll be sharing my favorite autumn recipe along with a free “Autumn Blessings” printable.Meet me over there!

I promised to bring you more small business features/tips so I am excited to introduce the first featured designer:) A new company with a brilliant concept! Welcome Rebekah from Design in a Bag…
About Design In A Bag
Prêt-à-porter for your kitchen and bath projects, Design In A Bag introduces collections of professionally coordinated and proven kitchen and bath design recipes, offering the expertise, access and eye of an interior designer without the price tag. Unlike other prêt interior design services, Design In A Bag allows you to browse online galleries of coordinated kitchen and bath looks – each carefully designed and crafted by Rebekah Zaveloff, an HGTV contributor and the creative force behind Chicago’s preeminent kitchen and bath interior design firm KitchenLab – and delivers selected complete concepts including cabinet, countertop, tile and paint samples, shopping list and hand-drawn renderings direct to your door. Taking the guesswork out of putting together a cohesive look for your kitchen or bath project, consumers can touch, see and experience the materials in their home, bringing the showroom and interior designer directly to you.
What sparked the idea for Design in a Bag?
Carting bags of finish materials around to client’s homes and arranging palettes of different materials on their countertops, encouraging them to live with them for a while before making a decision…and the moment when clients started carting their own samples around as well, whether to show friends and family or to help in finalizing other materials when visiting showrooms.
What helped get the idea off the ground?
A slow-down in business due to the recession gave us the extra time we needed to really get things going in full force. We had conceived and trademarked the idea years earlier, but hadn’t had time to start designing the website and figuring out the bells and whistles. My sister did the logo and helped us with the first version of the website design. Thankfully she started her full time job and finished grad school AFTER we had finished phase one of the website! Also, when we shared the idea, people’s enthusiasm was so tangible that we knew we had to give it a shot!
Where do you pull the inspiration for the color, textile, and detail choices in the themes?
It’s completely organic and stream of consciousness. I’ve always loved hard surface materials…I started my creative career in sculpture and collage. I love the way materials speak to each other when juxtaposed. I don’t look at any one material and think “that would go nice with yellow”. I literally move materials around until I come up with a combination that pleases me. It’s so much fun to come up with different combinations – I can express different sides of my personality and taste. I can be modern, sophisticated, colorful, vintage, eclectic, neutral…the combinations and moods are endless. It’s all about what works together on a gut instinct level.
Are there plans to develop new themes in the future?
Absolutely! We are planning on introducing seasonal collections, guest designer collections, and custom a la cart options as well.
The blog came first! After planning our wedding in June ’09 I needed an outlet to continue my creativity. It wasn’t until about 6 months after I had been blogging that I realized I also really missed the planning & design aspects of our wedding- which led me to start Dandelion & Grey Event Design in January 2010.
Your event and styling work is beautiful! What is your favorite aspect of getting to work with events?
My favorite aspect of getting to work with events is the diversity and creativity involved. Each couple has a different story, history & style and I truly feel so lucky to get the opportunity to bring that to life.
Where do you go for inspiration for your creative work?
I gather inspiration everywhere, but I would say the top three places I find it would be blogs, travel and tv/film. I am continually impressed at what I see on a daily basis on so many blogs. I think this community we have all created is just incredible and allows us to push ourselves to fulfill new creative endeavors.
How has blogging influenced your work or vice versa?
Blogging is a huge part of what I do. I love to be able to share my photoshoots, parties, weddings and inspiration with my readers. On the flipside, the business has influenced the blog in the sense that I tend to blog only about my work and inspiration these days, whereas I used to blog daily wedding inspiration. It definitely is ever-evolving, but this is a good way for me to share my work & maintain a balance!
Just for fun – what is on your must have list for fall?
Fall is my favorite season! I just purchased some adorable camel colored flats that I can’t wait to wear. I also adore scarves, sweaters and boots…they are definitely staples in my Fall wardrobe!
Taking sequins in small doses can be the perfect way to dress up and add a little *sparkle to your life:)
I am not an advocate of the all – sequins dresses (can’t get the bad 80’s images out of my mind)…BUT I am head over heels for subtle sequins!! Above are a few of my top choices for adding a few layering options to your wardrobe:) And don’t worry, they are almost all AFFORDABLE!
Cheers to another October weekend with good weather in the forecast!
*Stay tuned for Monday’s fabulous Meet the Blogger interview. Hint: She works with styling and events!
I was always fascinated with product packaging when I studied Graphic Design. It really is an art form. These are two examples I was crazy about! Brilliant, right?!
As we get closer to the holidays I will also start to share some beautiful gift packaging ideas:) Stay tuned!
*THANKYOU to all of you who have left feedback so far as to what you would like to see more of this year on IHOD! I so greatly appreciate it. If you missed the post. Please read!
So happy to come across these photos of Mira Duma. A fellow expectant mother daring enough to wear skinny belts and stilletos with a baby bump. I liked her immediately:)
Its that time in my pregnancy where all my clothes are getting a little to snug and tight. Flowy shirts and flat boots are what I am craving to wear right now!
Hope you enjoy this beautiful October weekend!
