How we wore it: Aubergine Trousers

October 22, 2012

If you remember this recent For a Fraction post, you’ll remember how fab those Burgundy pants were. It inspired Sarah and I to do a back to back style post of how we would wear the look. Except they are more aubergine than burdgundy;)
Isn’t Sarah a beauty? She has such a fun personality to boot. For her outfit details, visit her blog, Wearing it on My Sleeves (one of my daily reads!)
My outfit details: Sweater: c/o Deloom, Cords: True NYC (similar), Tote: Mimi Boutique, Shoes: Francesca’s (similar), Sunnies: H&M
Did you all have a good weekend?
We were outside 90% of ours, and enjoyed the best month atlanta has to offer:)
P.S. Can’t wait to announce all the giveaway winners for Deloom and InPink tomorrow! Last day to enter:)

Real Chat: Simplify Your Life

October 20, 2012

Since the last Real Chat post, I have tried to simplify my life in all shapes and sizes. This quote couldn’t have been more timely:)
Design/Blogging:  I have turned down some design projects, and am focusing on the Holiday gift guide and current clients only. I turned off comment notifications in my email inbox as I realized an overflowing inbox is a recipe for stress. I also started using google calendar (hello where have I been?).
At Home: Like I mentioned this week, I am working torwards simplicity in my closet as well. Only purchasing what I absolutely need or what will last for a long time. Having much never seems to sit well with me. I don’t like keeping what I don’t use because I feel like it is wasting. (My mom’s influence;)) So, I am cleaning out my closet monthly.  I also made plans to organize my house. Boxes, shelves, etc. With toddlers, its impossible to keep everything in its place. I am learning to let that go. We also cycle toys often as well. They tend to prefer puzzles and books anyways:)
I am already breathing a little easier, and finding more time to be with my children or call up a friend.I have found that the people I meet that are simple about the way they live their life are the most peaceful….and happier. Don’t ya think?
What are some ways you keep your life simple?

And can’t leave you without some fun weekend reading:
Speaking of organization: Love this site with all my fave online catalogues in one place with direct links to products.
Speaking of simple: A minimalistic and totally functional DIY that tickled my fancy.

An etsy shop discovery I fell smitten over.
Favorite blog find of the week.

DIY Wrap Around Cape Tutorial

October 19, 2012

DIY Wrap Cape | In Honor of Design
{Coated Denim: Henry & BelleWide Brim Fedora, Booties: Sam Edelman}

I admit, that capes are a very intimidating thing. You know what else is intimidating? A sewing machine. Well I am on a roll today friends of kicking intimidation in the face. You know what inspired me? Audrey Hepburn (of course)….

Mind you, I agree that nothing can beat fur and organza…..or Audrey. I translated this design to a version I felt I could actually wear in the coming months.

Materials:
1 yard fabric (Update: double folded! So technically it is two yards. Apologies for any confusion! Most fabrics are folded over when cut, but just in case!)
(Tweed is great because you don’t need to sew a lining.)
4 yards Velvet Ribbon – 1 inch width (Find at Hobby Lobby or MJTrim)
2 Buttons
2 Hook and Latch Clasps
Fabric Scissors

All instructions included on the infographic:) If you want to print or email, download it here.
I have let you all off easy so far with super simple DIY’s. This one is intermediate, but I know you can conquer it. A cable knit sweater material or even full velvet would be fun too. I have grand plans for some mini versions for Veronica:D Will keep you posted on that one.

Have a happy weekend ahead!
x, Anna

Just throw on a tee: the latest from stylemint

October 17, 2012

(all tops via StyleMint)
Lately I have only been purchasing items I know I will use to death and will outlast the trends. Its much easier to build a wardrobe that you can mix and match by using pieces that go with multiple items and can be worn both dressy and casual. I love layering pieces as you know:) I think what I love about some of the latest StyleMint pieces is that they are easy, comfortable, and timeless (not to mention affordable!). I joined this site a while back because after a short style quiz, they can show you pieces that best fit your personal taste. These pieces above are some that matched my style profile, and they were pretty spot on. That might also have to do with the fact that they were designed by style mavens, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen;)
Which top best fits your style?

True Beauty Files: Outerwear

October 15, 2012

{Utility Jacket: F21 (similar), Yellow Jacket: c/o Deloom, Gingham Shirt: Banana Republic (similar on sale), Jeans: ON, Boots: Carlos Santana, Bracelet: c/o Inpink}
A funny thing about Atlanta in the fall…
There is a 20-30 degree difference from the morning till the afternoon.
This is why the only solution is to layer and layer well.
Obviously this is okay with me – its my favorite hobby.
How was your weekend?
I am a little bitter over the fact that it felt like a long day rather than a whole weekend.
I’ll get over it…
Fun things to share with you all this week. Stay tuned!

The True Beauty Files
A lookbook for the modern modeste.
“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”
