NYC Store fronts, You’ve Got Mail, and Fun Links

September 14, 2012

I had little to no time to shop while in NYC (probably a good thing), but I did get an hour to run in and out some of the fun shops in SoHo:)
If you have a huge open closet, this might be a fun solution for scarves:)
Loved the details in the Madewell NYC store. I would have raided it of all its delightful treasures but then I remembered…oh wait, I can’t even afford one of their socks. Okay I might be slightly exaggerating but still…
Kate Spade always without fail has the coolest store fronts.
I sometimes dream about being store front stylist in another life…
Whats that job you like to tease up in your dreams?

Oh and then I got to visit this little cafe…you know the one in You’ve Got Mail? (Only one of my favorite movies ever.) I died a happy death in that moment, as quotes ran through my head…

“She has to be! She haaaassss too!!!!”
“Pride and Prejudice….I bet you just love that book. I bet you read it every year. I bet you just love that Mr. Darcy and your sentimental heart must beat wildly at the thought that he and whats her name are going to end up together?”
“If I really knew you I know what I would find, instead of a brain a cash register, instead of a heart, a bottom line.”
“Is this a rose? No this is a crimson rose. Something you read about in a book no doubt.”
“You’re nothing but a suit.”
Okay I could go on but I will spare you…
Funl links for your weekend:
I will never look at folding chairs the same after this makeover.
Matine launched their fall collection. Don’t even get me started..
Is quilting among your skill sets? Amazingly sweet project for NICU babies.
DIY Leather Tassel Bag Charm. (L.O.V.E.)
Head over heels for Nina Garcia’s line for Bauble Bar. Affordable staples.
Matchbook mag also dropped another fantastic issue.

Happy September weekend!
Love, Anna

  • I love that movie. I think I will watch it today!

  • I am ashamed to say that I’ve never seen that movie (#fail). But I know exactly where you were in SoHo 🙂 And isn’t the Nina Garcia collection so awesome!? We’re all obsessed in the office.

  • How fun to be in NYC gazing at all of those beautiful store fronts! And what a treat to go to the You’ve Got Mail café! That is simply one of the BEST movies ever made! And my favorite especially this time of year 🙂 So happy you had such an incredible whirlwind trip! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
    xx,
    Dana

  • Looks like a great trip! I love NYC, and it’s been far too long since I’ve made a trip! Where’s the cafe? I’ll have to find it on my next trip. I love that movie, too!

  • Lovely photos!!! thanks for the inspiration (I have to do ‘competitive/inspiration’ shops of other retailers for my job…you have just helped me out!) Looks like you had a great trip…right there with you in the love for You’ve Got Mail 🙂 happy weekend! XO brynn

  • Umm, how did I not know that the cafe was real? That is amazing!!

  • I think it’s funny with “You’ve Got Mail” that that phrase/product is no longer a “thing.” Generations after us will not understand. Of course, they’ll probably just have something similar to replace it. 🙂

  • Oh man it is both a sad thing and a good thing (for your wallet) that you weren’t able to do shopping in NYC. Love those pretty scarves though!

  • oh SOHO is so amazing for food & shopping. I love it there…lucky for me my church is also down there! :)) have a nice wknd!

  • Last time I went to NYC I did not have time to shop either, but I love looking at all window designs. Sounds like your quick trip was not all bad, and you got some great pictures. You Got Mail is one of my favorite movies of all times as well, every time I watch it, it make me miss living in NYC.

  • Madewell has FAB sales!
I can also TOTALLY see you as a window display designer! You could still go for it and put those design skills to work!

  • I’ve enjoyed reading all your posts from last week’s trip. You look like the quintessential New Yorker! Hope you come back to NYC soon!

  • Love Kate Spade – and her storefront! She alys has these artistic touches that i love! Happy sunday dear!

  • For the first years I lived here in NY, I brought every friend and relative to Cafe Lalo, because of my obsession with You’ve Got Mail, glad to see someone else is just like me in that sense:)

  • Oh, these are so pretty.

And good heavens, I love that quote from You’ve Got Mail.

  • I used to go to Cafe Lalo all the time when I lived in NYC!! I lived in the UES kind of at the same street number so on Sundays I loved crossing the park and having brunch there. Its so different than the movie right? more crowded and way brighter….cute place. So glad you had a great time.

  • I love that movie too!
    Great pics from NYC

  • N.Y.C. – What is it about you?
    You’re big – you’re loud – you’re tough…. (deep sigh)
    I love that city. 🙂

  • Ohh Anna! This looks so fun and wonderful!! It makes me want to go to New York even more than my normally high level of wanting to go to New York.

And Bauble Bar is killing me. I need them to ship to Canada!!

  • I just found your blog, and while I knew straight away that it was something special, it was the You’ve Got Mail reference that sealed the deal. Fall will forever remind me of bouquets of newly sharpened pencils. Thanks for a great read!
