DIY Wrap Cape | In Honor of Design

The Friday before a holiday always feels like it should earn a blue ribbon. You made it, although out of breath and maybe panting;) Our whole family has been in need of a re-charge, as even little Gabriel woke up yesterday crying because he was “too tired for Kindergarten.” (Which never happens.) I think our bodies always know when we are gearing up for rest, as it seems it starts to shutdown ahead of time. You know?…

Anywayssss, a reader asked if I would share some ideas for what to wear for Thanksgiving. We grew up with the tradition of getting dressed up, since we were celebrating time with each other, and all the good the year had brought. I usually do dressy pants (with the expandable for pie option;)) and a sweater, but here are a few comfortable dress options in ruby red I shared for eHow – the color I seem to gravitate towards in November.

Also, for going out in the crispy cold, capes are fantastic for layering over a comfy sweater, your favorite stretch jeans, ruby red lips, and boots. This DIY cape tutorial was actually featured on buzzfeed last week! (Wowza!)

What do you all plan on wearing for the feast?
Happy November weekend!
x, Anna

    Hello Anna,

I am a new reader! I found you via The Fresh Exchange IG feed – I left you a comment on your IG and I was pleasantly surprised when you took the time to respond, thank you for that 🙂

I just wanted to say that I have really loved reading through recent and older posts on your blog, I have really enjoyed your authentic way with words and your photos are just beautiful! Very inspiring – I will definitely be a regular reader from now on!

I love all of these looks (although my favourite is that stunning red dress), you make me quite ‘homesick’ though, my husband is American and we will not be getting back to the US for Thanksgiving this year, I always love this time with our beloved family on that side of the pond and yes, dressing up is essential! Still, we will be celebrating with a mix of Americans and British faces here in London – with me adding a dash of Australian – and what’s Thanksgiving if not an opportunity to be thankful wherever, with whoever? Wishing you a wonderful break.

    • Hi Esther,
Thank you so much for the sweet note! It always is so encouraging as a blogger when someone takes the time to read and respond. Makes me so happy to hear you enjoy reading through!

I hope you get to celebrate in your own way there in London!
      Happy Thanksgiving:)

  • Anna , I really like the way you styled the taupe vest . I normally would bypass something like this in a store . But I am going to keep my eyes open for one . It’s not as heavy and restrictive as a jacket would be . And it’s awesome with a t-shirt dress , so the backside ( ahem ) is not so prominent , as often happens with these type of dresses on me . Anyways , Great ideas for Thanksgiving attire ! I adore the idea of dressing up for Thanksgiving . And these are all comfy but cute for the occasion . I had a similar idea for a Post I did a few days ago . Home for Thanksgiving ~ http://kingmakerblog.com/?p=736
Hope you and your family have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving holiday !

    • Hi Leticia! Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I wish I could find a similar vest option to share – this has been such a fun piece to have on hand:) Will keep my eyes open.
And thanks for the kind words!
Look forward to checking out your post:)

  • Ah! The maxi with the vest! So cute!

  • The red dress looks really pretty on you!!:)

  • I love the first look. I would do just about anything for a few more inches on my legs, this outfit looks fab on you girl.
