round dining table - breakfast nook - pleated pendant

Today I’m handing the blog over to Gabe who is a very thorough teacher on all topics he is passionate about. This includes bringing old pieces of furniture back to life. I spotted this table on Facebook Marketplace for a steal, and the woman who sold it to us was so happy that another family would continue to use it. Her grandfather built the table himself! It is just what we needed for our breakfast nook…

Backyard blooms, favorite flower pots, and a patio furniture round up.

April 26, 2022

This is the first time we have gotten to see the wisteria over our pergola in all it’s blooming glory. A late frost killed all the blooms last year, and we never got to see the flowers. I am completely in awe every morning, and it has been a beautiful visual to the feeling of coming out of a long hard season. We wanted to share some of our favorite spring blooms today + some of the planters and patio furniture we used out back!

Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2022

April 21, 2022

mothers day gift guide

ONE // TWO // THREE // FOUR // FIVE // SIX // SEVEN // EIGHT // NINE // TEN // ELEVEN // TWELVE THIRTEEN // FOURTEEN // FIFTEEN // SIXTEEN // SEVENTEEN // EIGHTEEN // NINETEEN

For this gift guide I tried to think of both the new mom, seasoned mom, and every phase in between. The truth is, the best gifts are ones that come with personal notes, thoughts, or time well spent.

  1. Photo books – To me, there is nothing more priceless than memories with my children. I don’t ever remember to print photos, so I am trying to get better at uploading them to memory albums. I love the quality of Artifact Uprising’s. One of these is all I am wishing for this mother’s day. (Hint hint Gabe!)
  2. Floral wine glasses to pair with mom’s favorite wine. I have these and they
  3. Leather Tote – An option most mother’s can use – a catch it all size! Comes in several colors.
  4. Another kind of tote for those who love to garden. Pockets big enough to hold garden tools, and a shape that makes it easy to tote around and stand up on its own.
  5. Mixing Bowl and Lid Set – I have used these mixing bowls with lids almost daily since I got them. A kitchen favorite. (Love that there are different attachments for the large mixing bowl for baking!)
  6. Every Day by HBH – My sisters and I are big Half Baked Harvest fans so her new cookbook is on my wishlist.
  7. This wooden serving set is from a home goods shop I recently discovered. Would pair well the cookbook.
  8. Leather Travel Jewelry Case – A well made travel jewelry case from a small business I really love.
  9. Custom Bar Bracelet I’ve included this shop before for personalized jewelry, and I think the bar bracelet would make a really sweet gift.
  10. Oval Custom Ring – A simple, but personal gift.
  11. Silk pillowcase – Didn’t know what I was missing out on until I tried a silk pillowcase my sister gave me. I love the color of this one.
  12. Kitchen Aid Mixer – My siblings and I often pitch in for a larger gift for my mom. This would be a great family gift option for Mother’s Day since there are so many life long uses for it. This mixer is definitely one my most used kitchen items.
  13. AHA Reflective Mask and Facial Tool – This is my favorite skin care product. I notice a visible difference every time I use it. Since it feels like an at home spa treatment and facial massage, it would make a perfect gift for moms everywhere. (Use code CLEANFORALL30 for 30% off first time purchases.)
  14. Straw Fedora – A good multi-task hat. Great for beach, pool, gardening, and an overall cute sun protection hat.
  15. Nodpod Weighted Eye Mask – Known for improving sleep and soothing migraines. This one has a very soft fabric and comes in a gift ready box.
  16. Tea Sampler Set – A good variety of handcrafted tea samplings in unique flavors.
  17. Tea Infuser Set – We use these around here regularly for loose leaf teas. They slip into standard mugs, and the lids keep them nice and hot while the flavor seeps. Would pair well with #18!
  18. Floral Mug – My sister hand painted the design for this mug for her shop just in time for Mother’s Day!
  19. HP Photo Printer– I can’t tell you the amount of times I have used my HP photo printer for last minute school projects the kids have. (I use this photo paper.) Had to include this for saving mom’s sanity reasons.

The Pleated Plendant + Round Table Resources

pleated pendant - round pendant - breakfast nook

(Similar chairs here or here // Table)

I’ve been browsing for the right pendant that would work well in the breakfast nook space since the fall. I was really hoping for one that would work well with both adjoining rooms (kitchen and family room) because well, that’s how my brain works and I can’t ever seem to turn it off. I stumbled on a handmade clay pleated pendant on Etsy that took my breath away. Since the seller was based in Egypt, my head said don’t risk ordering over seas, but my heart said BUY IT NOW! Which won out? The heart of course!

March 31, 2022

counter depth panel ready fridge

I think one of the hardest things to source for our kitchen was hardware in our budget. I was looking specifically for an antique brass finish. In my search I came across a range of styles and price points so I included a round up of cabinet hardware below, including the ones we ended up using for our kitchen!

The Kitchen Reveal Tour!

March 29, 2022

kitchen design - sage green cabinets

In many ways, this kitchen is the heart of our home. We spend hours a day here prepping meals, and an equal amount of time cleaning up. It’s where long conversations between Gabe and I happen late at night while we clean, and where we get the day started packing lunches before school in the morning. This is probably why it has been the most exciting project to see come to life. It hasn’t been without hurdles, intensive problem solving, and many nights in a makeshift kitchen. It’s been something we have really valued getting to share with our IHOD community, and we hope you feel like you learned something along the way! Today we are giving you the official tour, sources, and contractor info. It’s a hefty post so grab a cup of your favorite beverage and cozy up!

The Easter Edit – Outfit Ideas + Basket Goodies

March 20, 2022

easter basket ideas

Anyone else feel like they just put Christmas decorations away? My kids have been reminding me how excited they are that Easter is coming, which usually ensues me scrambling to make sure I order a few goodies in time to stuff in their baskets. I also need to do the yearly fun game of “Does everyone have shoes that fit for Easter service?” I know it can be like your own egg hunt to find these things, so including a round up of both basket stuffers and Easter wear this year.
