Its only December 9th, but I already have my New Years resolution…

If you have read some of my more recent posts you may have guessed there has been an inner struggle going on with my role as a blogger. It IS my part time job, but it is also an extension of who I am. They seem to butt heads sometimes. To refresh your memory, I almost quit blogging altogether every month…

I battle the line between wanting to share raw honest content and wanting to share only aspirational work. The fine line between Dirty laundry vs. Highlight Reel. And whileI have had this on my mind all year, the resolution is only now slowly forming.

I guess I am just realizing that with millions of new blogs starting each year, I might as well stop trying to chase what I think this blog should be and just start breathing more naturally…putting out content that is a darn good reflection of what I love most in this world. Surprisingly, clothes are on the bottom of that list. Its fun to play with fashion, but honestly, I could give away my closet and I would be find with a uniform. Maybe I should where a uniform for a week and then see how I feel about that before saying it out loud…but you get the idea;)

The solution to all these stirrings? There is probably no perfect solution, but I have a pretty good idea of my resolution for 2014…
My hope is to blog with more quality over quantity. More intention over obligation. The truth is I will never be able to separate myself enough from the blog to push it as a professional business. It just doesn’t feel natural.

The direction of the blog will remain lifestyle and design, but you will start to see a shift. I will be introducing a new year long project and hope it will make this a space that can continue to be one that pushes me in writing, photography, art direction, and purposeful motherhood. And if you haven’t yet read this post by Sydney, I highly recommend you do so whether you are just a blog observer or a blogger. It echoes so much of what has been on my mind!

Whew! Lets get to it! Just a few weeks here before I will be taking a blog break, so hope you enjoy what I have lined up in the next few days and thank you for always being so much fun to blog for! Your encouragement keeps me going!

x, Anna

P.S. Speaking of not caring all so much about clothes;)….had to share how much I love this awesome leather tank. Layered it in this cold rainy shoot and also wore it out to The Drybar/ Nexus7 event. Its so versatile which why is what I love about it!

One Truth: I almost quit blogging every month.

Blacks and Neutrals | IHOD

I almost quit blogging every month. Literally….every. month.

Blogging is a funny thing. I love that its allowed me to stretch my creative wings, the opportunities it has brought still makes me pinch myself, and the friendships through readers and other bloggers has changed me for the better. And I mean honestly, no complaints because I get to work from home! If you really want to blog full time you HAVE to be a go getter. You are consistent, you are accessible, you pitch, you receive, etc.

However, you may not guess, but I battle between that line of wanting to live a more private unknown life. To live your life out loud on the blog and social media world through a brand, requires a certain type of energy and focus that can sometimes be totally draining for my melancholic mind! Ha! Its like you are at a month long cocktail party. Granted this can be totally fun, but there are days when I would love to toss the phone and the computer out the window, and close off the internet forever. Its an extreme that will never happen, but I pretend I am so going to do it….

I was talking a little about this last night over coffee with Lesley and Whitney (both whom I have met through blogging believe it or not;)), and it got me thinking more about what the future holds for this space. My children are my most important work and I never want them to be over exposed or feel second to my creative work. I love having this place to document parts of their lives but have heard a few stories that have scared me from sharing too much. When it comes down to it, when the time is right, I will probably cut ties with this place called IHOD and be at peace with it. BUT, for now, I am going to keep enjoying this crazy adventure I somehow tripped and fell into:)

What about you? If you are a blogger what do you think of the whole idea of living publicly? If you are a reader, what do you think of this whole blogging business? I would love to hear:)

Dirty Laundry or Highlight Reel?

Denim on Denim Real Chat

^^ That time I forgot my shirt for the photoshoot and looked like a John Lennon groupie? ^^

This is a question I have been mulling over in the past few weeks. This topic has been discussed over the blog world time and again and its good to think through. I see bloggers taking a stand against the perfectly curated life and revealing it all; un-edited photos, real stories from the dirty laundry pile, and honest discussions. I think it is riveting, refreshing, and important….

I also know that it is in my nature to want to uplift and encourage. I don’t like to dwell on the negative and always assume no one wants to hear it either. This is why I have fallen somewhere in the middle. I have written my fair share of One Truth or Real Chat posts, and have loved learning from you all in the process. I often wonder what is the best route to go when writing this blog. I received this note from a dear friend the other day and it came at just the right time. Its important to not hide your joys just as it is important not to hide all of your sorrows. So I would love to hear from you all. What is your perspective on the content bloggers share?….

Why do you come to a blog?

What do you look forward to reading?

Would you rather escape to a highlight reel or engage in someone’s real life scenarios?

I know I have sites I look forward to visiting that are on both spectrums. Its nice to read through stories I can personally relate to or even laugh at someone’s comical mishap. They can be encouraging on their own! However, its also nice to escape a hard day to some of my favorite style and design blogs. And there’s always pinterest…;)

The question I always ask myself which I hope translates through this blog, is how have I helped someone today? Have I promoted the good? Have I encouraged the struggling? Have I shared something I truely love? Honesty, Authenticity, and Creativity are what I value most in this space and I hope you can always sense that. Although I also hope you can smack me upside the head if I get to lofty. Sound good?
