Bump Style Breakdown

March 23, 2015

Striped ShirtGold and stripes

Arrived at 21 weeks today. I think the fourth time around has allowed me comfort in my own skin. I expect the changes, and am more than okay with the extra weight. I am celebrating, because every day I have a life inside of me is something miraculous to rejoice over. As my closet choices grow thin, and my belly continues to expand, it is much easier to succumb to leggings over anything else. So, I’ll be starting a pregnancy lookbook series next week with Jessica in hopes it will help my dwindling motivation to get dressed, and maybe help a few other mothers to be in the process. There really are some great options available now for every phase of pregnancy. So here we go, this bump style break down:

Street Style .01 via IHOD

Long and stretchy stiped tee – I probably should avoid stripes when I am pregnant, but I have an undying love for them…especially black and white stripes. This is a maternity tee I used from my last pregnancy that I just fit into again last week. Here are a few non-maternity striped tees here and here that could also work for your first and second trimester by going up a size or two.

Black Slouchy pants – Make way leggings make way. You have been replaced by the slouch pants from Lou & Grey. These are not maternity but the stretchy waist and ankle give plenty of room for comfort. Love how you can dress these up or down. They are still available in stores, and online they just released a pair that is almost the same.

Cognac Ankle boots – Low cut ankle boots are handmade by Poppy Barley. They make the shoes to custom fit the width of your foot which I welcome with open arms. They also have these cushions on the insoles that allow you to wear them for hours without pain. I bow down. (Also #consciousclosets approved!)

Black Leather Tote – I love large totes because I need to be able to fit the world inside. This is a reversible brown/black leather tote that works with just about everything I wear.

Gold accents – I love supporting ethically made jewelry and clothing companies as you know, and really loved the mission behind Trading Hope. Their pieces are also really unique. I paired their Elin necklace, Trellis cuff bracelet, and stud earrings for some gold accents to complete the look.

Check back next week for my next outfit breakdown. Cheers to the new week, expandable pants, and better yet, husbands who go on ice cream runs for the pregnant wives;)

Ethically Made Jewelry Favorites

Ethically Made Jewelry

To continue the #ConsciousClosets series, I wanted to share the jewelry I have narrowed down my hoard to! I used to be a big and bold accessories girl (all my college pictures involve big earrings…), and I still love to put bold pieces on for special occasions, but I would consider myself a minimal jewelry wearer now. I am not sure what changed, maybe it’s my perspective on style and the belief we don’t need much to reveal authentic beauty. Although it might have to do more with a busy particular toddler.

I used to just pick up jewelry at F21, because you can’t beat $5.80 for a necklace…but then I started to question how all this cheap jewelry was made. Not to mention it would tarnish less than a month later. I really value the designers behind ethically made jewelry, and realize it is a better investment in pieces that will last forever. I wear these pieces with everything. Sometimes solo or sometimes layered. There are SO many good companies, but here are a few favorites. Will update as I go!

Velina Jewelry
Padgett Hoke
Gold and Gray
Mes Petites Etoiles
Kendra Scott
The Shine Project
Crafts and Love
Moorea Seal
Shop Soko (Thanks for the rec Bien Faire!)
Rose and Fitzgerald
31 Bits
Kluster Shop

The jewelry dishes are from The Object Enthusiast. What are some of your favorites?
I’d love to check them out!
Happy Valentine’s Day weekend!

Flare denim, I’ll never quit you.

Denim: Paige Denim // Sweater: Lookbookstore c/o // Blouse: Old Navy // Coat: Lookbookstore c/o // Hat: Anthropologie // Reversible Tote: Urban Outfitters // Necklace: Velina and Kendra Scott  // 360 Stud Earrings: Bauble Bar // Nails: Julep

If I could just wear dresses from the fifties, glasses from the sixties, and denim from the seventies, there would be no need for anything else in my closet’s life.

I am very serious about denim friends. In fact, I could talk to you about various denim brands for hours and my opinions about them. What companies run big or small, long or curvy, etc. What material is worth the designer price, and which ones wear thin fast.

Jeans are that clothing item every girl hunts for till they figure out that perfect fit. And when you find those jeans, they are worn tried and true, in and out. Being on the shorter side, my 5’5” frame usually requires me to hem most designer jeans. Since the seemed to be designed for 6 foot women only, they can swallow me whole in length….truth. However, it is nothing a ten dollar hem at a seamstress does the trick though. (Case in point: the jeans above I had hemmed!)

Last year I realized I had stacks of denim that developed over a dedicated hunt to replace my Seven jeans. I have slowly narrowed them down to a few styles and rotate them daily. The boyfriend, the skinny, the flare, and a few distressed.

So let’s talk denim. Favorite brands and the ones that have lasted you the longest? Best fitting? I would love to hear!

January I Spy: Pocket Sized Gifts

January 7, 2015

I genuinely love simple and thoughtful gifts more than anything else. My husband snuck a pair of crystal earrings in my stocking this year, because he knows how often I lose mine. Those were my favorite gift! And of course the little manger scene little Gabriel made me with glitter all over it and a cut out picture of him on the side. Can’t beat that!

I also received some happy mail that that made me squeal, and had to share some of these pocket sized gifts with all of you! I think I will make this more of a regular series. Just sharing things I really love and have spotted lately.

Happy Gifts

Ban.do + Julep Maven goodies were a dream to open. I am a sucker for Ban.do packaging and am now forever committed to this insane bare face cleansing oil. Also love how compact this neutral eye shadow set is! My sister Tricia gave me the portable charger, and I think my life has changed for the better. (Goodbye dead iphone when I am stuck in the middle of Atlanta traffic.) 😉

After all the party planning and treasure hunting, we finally got to enjoy the finished result of our backyard dinner party over the weekend! It was the evening before my birthday so it was so nice to spend time with friends. I may have done the scheming, but once again, it was Gabe who did all the labor….:D:D

Furniture: We have been wanting a custom table for our dining room so we decided to bite the bullet and make one. Gabe worked on this for days, and I owe him my right arm at this point, but he reassures me he loves to woodwork….hmmm. After the table was finished we set it outside on our patio and brought in the weatherproof outdoor chairs as well as the San Martin chairs for a little color.

Table Top: As you got a sneak preview already, I bought mix of floral and melamine plates to bring in an array of color and pattern. I even used retro patterned forks. Fresh florals (last minute snip from the side of our house) made for a great centerpiece and the citronella candles kept the mosquitos away:)

Ambiance: Lighting can do so much for a space so we strung up these lights across 8 foot 2×2 steaks and staple gunned to the tops. We added the lattice board on one side of the patio behind our planter boxes to really make the space feel like a comfortable outdoor dining room. When the sun set we had dessert and a little music.

Food and Drink: We threw everything on the grill. Steak and Chicken Skewers with cilantro sauce, carrot medley, and grilled corn (for grilled corn salad). Goat cheese and crackers, guacamole, etc. for apps. Coconut Mojitos and Sangria filled the glasses.

Here’s the easy Sangria recipe:
1 Bottle Sparkling Peach Water
1 Bottle Sparkling White Wine (I used a bottle of peach from Trader Joe’s)
1 Bottle Red Sparkling Wine
2 Oranges
2 Lemons
4 Limes
4 Peaches

Throw in the fruit and pour in the liquids to simmer for at least a few hours!

Hope we get the chance to have many more opportunities to gather around this table with family and friends over the next few months. It is that time I value more than anything else! We poured a ton of hours into this, but now you cannot pry us away from our backyard. Happy summer!

We had a heat wave hear in GA and so I immediately dove for the light silk pieces in my closet. These pants from Calypso St. Barth are better than pajama pants I am telling ya. Wore this to church and brunch on Mother’s Day:)
Have you tried out palazzo pants or silk pants? Kind of hope they stick around a while!
Have a happy hump day! #livingfortheweekend

Wedding Wear.

Dress: Dolce Vita (similar version here) // Sandals: Old Navy // Sunglasses: Free People // Earrings: Kate Spade // Clutch: Wink & Winn c/o

How was your weekend? Mine was a bit of a whirlwind with The Brand Market workshop in Raleigh (more on that soon!) and Gabriel’s birthday yesterday. We were given the most beautiful weather and for the first time in over a year I got uninterrupted sleep….which means Monday morning came way easier than most;)

Wore this dress to a wedding a few weeks ago. I fell in love when I saw it and since I had shopbop credit this is what I used it on. The sunglasses I picked up at Free People (they always have fun affordable options), and the shoes were a shocking find at Old Navy! So comfortable. The first time I haven’t ended up with blisters after a night of dancing at a wedding.

Hope you all get a good dose of spring weather this week!
x, Anna

P.S. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for those of you who bought the Print Packs I created for Mission Santa Maria. Half way to the goal so I greatly appreciate the support:)
