A New Year Note

January 13, 2023

christmas morning

Is it too late for a Happy New Year salutation?! I hope each of you have had a peaceful start to 2023. We are getting back into the post-holiday swing, and I admit I am sad the holidays have already come and gone. Our kids anticipate this time all year, and their excitement is contagious—although I admit I am still recovering from the many meals, surprises, visitors, snow clothes, and perpetual laundry cycles. All part of the Christmas fun!

Heading into this year Gabe and I both have our eyes on simplicity. After a series of personal hardships and health issues, this last year felt like a big purging of all of the unnecessary things in my mindset. I care about so much less in a way, and I care so much more about what was already near and dear to me. Some of the changes we hope to make are going to be difficult—and others exciting.

It is very easy to get swept up in a culture that promotes productivity, consumption, achievement-oriented success, and instant everything. It seems harder than ever to choose a slower pace and simpler approach that ultimately lead to a whole and healthy life.

We are keeping our eyes on some goals for our home, family, and business that work toward a healthy pace that allows us to pour into the places that matter most to us. We are looking forward to sharing some of the projects we have on the horizon. Thank you for spending time with us this past year! We are grateful for the opportunity to share among such a great community of people. We hope this year ahead is a good one for you!

What a great article. I love your bookshelf/cabinet. The white is to die for. I’m trying to get a fresh cabinet painting soon in my own place, and seeing your design was really helpful to me. Thanks for sharing!
