These two sisters think it is a perpetual sleepover party sharing a room together. It has been so fun to see them spend time here together. It seems that whenever I put some effort into a space in our home, that is where everyone wants to hang out! I just about finished up the design of this shared girls room, and all it is missing are the bamboo blinds! All the photos below…
Every year I claim I am going to slow down for the holidays, and yet I arrive to them pretty wiped out and feeling like my head is spinning! I want to make a conscious effort this year to make room for the things I am needing more of in my life, and step away from the things that are extra noise and unnecessary time and energy. When I mentioned this here, it seemed like many of you are feeling the same way, and so I decided to make a list of 30 prompts! These will be focused on cleaning up and organizing different areas of life in order to get rid of the physical, mental, and emotional clutter, and make room for a peace filled December. Are you with me?
I was doubtful we would find a family costume everyone was on board with this year, but after watching The Wizard of Oz for the first time last week we had a winner! My procrastination sent me all over town hunting pieces for seven costumes. I got lucky and found half of the pieces at a consignment store, half online, and we pieced together the rest! We thought it would be fun to show what actually goes into getting 5 kiddos ready for Halloween. It’s a two hour process compressed down to this two minute video;)
Read on for a few more pics and a few behind the scenes facts about all of these costumes!
Okay so now that we have covered hardware….another really simple switch to make that can update a space? Ceiling fans! They have the ability to outdate a space almost as quickly as a bad wallpaper;) If you are staging a home to put on the market, this might be something you can swap that can actually make a big impact on a room. I really love the selection and price points at Hunter Fan, so we found an option that worked both in our living room and our master bedroom.
The temps went from some to winter here in Atlanta it seems, and it had me pulling out all of the winter boxes from storage for the kids and I. As I was going through coats, I realized it’s the one thing I have stayed pretty classic in style with. It’s a good thing considering I have a few coats that I still wear that are 8 yrs old because they are well made and go with everything. The cheap coats didn’t last more than a few years, so now if I purchase one I look more for long term wear that will outlast trends.
I love adding details that can bring character to a home….even down to the doorknobs! I am the design nerd who would take note of all of the old knobs in old homes. I love the details, and how they speak about the era of design. After we put together some of the rooms in our home, I thought it was time to switch out the wobbly knobs for some sturdier options. I loved the styles of the newcustom door hardware collection from Schlage. Considering the good quality we experienced with our front and back door, I went ahead and continued with the dark finishes throughout the house. We are sharing some before and after examples, as well as a simple video on how to change a doorknob in case you are ready to make some switches in your own home! VIEW FULL POST
This week’s feeding the fam recipe is one of my favorites to make year round. It is delicious, and all of my children gobble it up in seconds which is a rare feat. You can prep this in the crock pot or insta pot, and have plenty of meat to feed a crowd. I’m calling it Carnitas Rancheros because it’s a mix of two of my favorite hispanic dishes: Carnitas and Huevos Rancheros.
