DIY large scale wall art.

August 31, 2017

I usually have art commitment phobia, and it takes me forever to get together a picture ledge or gallery wall. I like art in our home to have meaning so I overthink everything, and end up not being able to execute any decisions. This time around I went for a different approach by making my own large scale art. It saves a pretty penny, and also gives your art a little more significance in the process.

  1. Choose an image you have taken from travels, your city, or in my case, just from a stroll around my neighborhood! You don’t have to use a fancy camera. I think the biggest surprise for me was that this printed pretty clear even though the image was from my iphone.
  2. Open your image in a photo editing program (I used photoshop) to convert to black and white or edit contrast, brightness, or color. I set up the image horizontally and split them into two even images. Save as separate files.
  3. Print your images on wrap around canvas through a discount printing site like Easy Canvas Prints (they run up to 85% off deals). The total cost for both of your art work will still be less than buying a custom one large piece from most art print sites. These black and white images were printed in the wrap around canvas style in size 30” x 40.”

Hope this is helpful! I can’t share too much of our living room yet, but I will be posting the full tour very soon! We will be sharing how we made these picture ledge/ book shelves as well.

3 quick steps for building a fall capsule wardrobe.

August 28, 2017

It dipped below 90 degrees here which seemed to validate the word Autumn here in GA. It doesn’t get cool enough for jackets here till about November, so I may not be wearing my favorite staples until then, but I have a feeling many of you will be needing warmer pieces in under a month! Below are some quick steps for building a fall capsule wardrobe if you are interested in creating one, as well as some good base staples to get you started.

Sleep Routine Tips for Kids.

August 24, 2017

We want to start answering more of the questions we have received centered around family life that can be more thorough a quick social media response. Today I want to dive into the topic of the great mystery of sleep habits for little ones! I think most parents have experienced desperation at some point or other. You know that feeling of fog and confusion because everyone is sleep deprived, and you feel like you are willing to sign over your life on the dotted line just to have one night of good sleep? There really is nothing worse than a child OR parent who hasn’t hit a good REM cycle in a while. With 5 little ones, have tried just about every combination and trick in the book for getting our kids to develop good sleep patterns. I don’t think I will EVER figure out that first year of life (so unpredictable!), but there are some things that have seemed to help encouraging consistent sleep routines for kids both at home and while traveling.

22 Piece Summer Capsule Conclusions

August 21, 2017

At the beginning of this capsule the number 22 seemed like a small number to work with for a whole summer. This is funny to me now considering there were a few items I only wore once or twice. I could have probably worked with 15 and been fine! It was eye opening to realize how I’ve lived in a state of excess for so long. It’s much easier not to think through what we wear and where we buy our clothing than it is to be intentional about it. I often just don’t feel like I have the brain space to think through a whole month’s worth of outfits. However, as I mentioned previously, after it was all said and done, this experience saved me time and money in the end! It also felt like I had an interior and mental shift along with it.

Weekend notes!

August 19, 2017

Weekend notables:

Are you watching the eclipse? I wouldn’t put it past my 4yr old Max to take of his eclipse glasses off, but hoping to catch it with my oldest two! Caught this helpful video for making your solar eclipse glasses kid safe.

I can’t get enough of Azelie in bonnets lately. They are superb cheek framers. A few favorite bonnet shops: Petite Soul Shop, Jacqueline and Jac (pictured), and Etsy

Beautycounter is having a really good bundle deal on their fresh face in 5 minutes kit. It includes my favorite mascara and tinted moisturizer. Feel free to email me if you need help with color matching.

LC’s Spanish inspired home. They don’t make them quite like that here in Georgia.

One of my favorite shops for kids, Shop Bitte is having a birthday sale! My kids loved this 50 states book, and couldn’t resist matching leotards for my girls.

It looks like scrunchies are trying to make a comeback, and I can’t decide if I love it or hate it. Fun fact: I used to sew scrunchies to sell at our annual yard sale. I guess that is where my affinity for entrepreneurship began!

We watched the move The Circle a few weeks ago, and while it wasn’t anything mind blowing, it does really makes you think about where society is headed with it’s unhealthy relationship with social media and the digital age.

K, that’s all I got for now!

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Their names are Anger and Courage.

August 18, 2017

I don’t use this blog as a place to discuss political issues because I think the biggest impact we can have on the world around us is the actions we choose to live face to face with our neighbors, strangers, family, and communities. However, outside the realm of politics right now are basic humanity issues. And right now, humanity continues to suffer on so many levels. I see all of the pain and brokenness, and am trying really hard to hold onto hope. But out of respect and love for each other and the country we live in, I cannot turn a blind eye. Racism, abuse, prejudice, indifference…..these are all issues that affect the intrinsic fibers of our being. They tear at our creation story of how we were made with equal dignity to love and be loved. It has me wondering how we got here, and where we are heading. How can we take action towards a more peaceful and united world we all crave?  Empathy and acknowledgement are the first steps, but perhaps the greatest example to me thus far is this African American’s story. An action rooted in love will always be the most powerful source of light.
