A Simple Homemade Applesauce Recipe

October 9, 2019

Now that we have a million pounds of apples from our apple farm visit, I decided to divide them up and do a few easy recipes with them. You would think applesauce would be too much effort, but turns out it only requires a few ingredients and 30 minutes time! The best part about this simple homemade applesauce recipe? It fills your house with the aroma of autumn!

Simple Homemade Applesauce Ingredients:

6-8 large apples of any kind (I used Rome)
3/4 -1 c. water
2 tbls lemon juice
Dash of salt
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
1/2 c. Brown sugar  (optional)

Peel, core, and chop 6-8 large apples into small pieces, and put them in a pot. We lost our apple spiralizer, but these are ideal for baking anything with apples! Way faster and more efficient than a standard peeler.

Add in water, lemon juice, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and optional brown sugar and stir to evenly coat. (1/4 c. Pure Maple Syrup is another alternative to sweeten your applesauce!)  Bring to a boil, and turn down heat to low with the lid covering the pot. Simmer on low for 20-25 minutes until apples are soft.

Depending on the type of apples, the simmer time may vary slightly, so just stir every 5 minutes and keep an eye on the consistency of the apples until they are soft and ready to mash with a potato masher.

Serve warm as bribery for a post-dinner treat;) It works!

Let us know how yours turns out, and hope you enjoy!
