I don’t know how it is already 4th of July next week, but I am trying to roll with it! I love how this holiday brings families and friends together. Of course, I am already thinking about the food. We always have the grill going the whole week, so thought I would re-share some menu hits, yard games, and free phone wallpaper download for some festive fun!
I am someone who has made goals and to-do lists since I was old enough to have a Lisa Frank notebook. I have always loved dreaming and doing, but this year, I am feeling the tug to pull back (hence the minimal blog posts). This past year brought some of the hardest days of my life, but it was also a year that my eyes were opened to the miracle of what each day is. I have never felt so content and grateful for the life surrounding me. It’s not easy for a chronic over-productive person to ever be still, but I have never been more aware that we can easily miss the best parts of our lives if we are always looking ahead at what is next. I’m definitely at a point in life where I no longer have time to shop for myself. There seems to always be at least 23 other important things that need to happen in a week, and taking time to go browse racks at stores doesn’t quite fit into the priority list. I do still appreciate style though, and realize the importance of getting dressed and feeling your best. When I first tried Trunk Club, it honestly felt like a sigh of relief. It takes away the hours of in store (or online) shopping, and gives you the opportunity to try several different looks from your own home. Gabe and I are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary next week (that feels so weird to type out), and we also have a summer wedding to attend. I wanted to avoid the hours of shopping in stores and online, so Trunk Club to the rescue. Here are a few looks that came in my trunk, and would a quick vote at the bottom for your favorite look!
The best family vacation we have had as a family was our stay at The Beas Nest on the Isle of Palms, SC (coast side of Charleston). It definitely had something to do with having the convenience of the beach steps away, and an outdoor shower after returning. (Parents you get me.) It also had to do with the fact that the house was a dream, as well as the town it resides in so we never wanted to even leave the vicinity! That being said, I couldn’t wait to tell you all about this giveaway! MaryJo and her family, the owners of The Beas Nest, are generously offering a 4 day, 3 night stay giveaway in honor of the two year anniversary of the home renovation! VIEW FULL POST
I always knew Gabe would be an incredible father. Being right in the middle of raising these 5 children, and watching that unfold before my eyes is something that has been one of the best parts of my life. Despite it being some of the hardest days we have faced, he gives himself tirelessly to us with love, humor, and determination. I am so immensely grateful to share this role of parenthood with him. We put together this little video to remind our favorite guy just how much he means to us….
I know Father’s Day can be painful for many people, and I was thinking of all the men who step up as role models, superheroes, and care takers. Strong men are hard to find, but they exist. They make a big difference in our world. So cheers to the men who step up each day to fight for others in one way or another.
Hope you all have a happy Father’s Day with your loved ones!
Over the weekend, we painted the girls’ room, and prepped it for a oh deer! removable wallpaper mural I’ve been so anxious to get up. I was totally positive going into it that I could do it on my own, and in two hours flat. I have installed it before in our old dining room. However, we learned a few things. One of them being that not all removable wallpaper applies the same. (Insert sarcastic laugh.) Read on for a few tips for applying removable wallpaper + the before and after! VIEW FULL POST
I realized most of you haven’t been with us since the beginning. Back when I started I believe only my family and a handful of friends read my blog. I was talking with my sister this week about way back when Gabriel was a toddler, and I set up a domain called inhonorofdesign.com. It was never intended to become what it is today, so I thought I should share a summary of the side businesses and jobs that lead us here. I hope it will shed some light on how we made this our family business, and also encourage some of you fighting hard to get something off the ground. Your dreams are worth speaking out loud. They are worth fighting for, even if it does or doesn’t become what you want it to be. Every door open can be a grounds for coming to the place you are meant to stand. So here we go…
